update 3: well, this is really the fifth version... but whatev. Added more glowy-ness to the woman, and darkened the left side in general to make it more apparent that it's her going from darkness to light. Thanks =whenSmyledoesnttalk and =veinsrunempty
update 2: added some small seagulls, got rid of more white lines near her arms, and added moar splash. plus: video game reference in title. woo. not really fan art, it's just the phrase I was thinking when I made this. updates 1: darkened the hair and tried to get rid of some of the white outline around the woman. I also added a slight shadow behind her and darkened the shadow of the wave a bit. Thanks =CarpeSav for the suggestions! --------- started working on this today... just practicing a bit and working on ideas for the Wacom contest that was announced a few days ago. Her hair still needs some more blending, it's a bit stringy. If anyone has ideas on what else to add... I'm thinking of some gulls in the back perhaps. ps: woman stock from *faestock, ocean/wave from =Della-Stock, splash is from ~two-ladies-stocks, splash brushes by ~Baringa-of-the-Wind and bird brushes by ~thiselectricheart CommentsThis is really amazing. What I did notice though is that the hair is much lighter where you added it on, it seems, perhaps make that darker so it all blends together and looks natural

feels kinda stupid giving any Critique on a WIP. but her hair aint wet :/ even if you draw on any water, im not sure her haire would act that way if it were wet. But you are a miracle worker -- Visit my Gallery at : [link] Reading the comment above me: making her hair/dress look wet would be a good improvement.. Perhaps adding some droplets on her hair or flying off of her hair, as if she were whipping it out of the water, which is what it kind of looks like. There are a lot of tutorials on how to make water, if you don't already know how that is.. It's pretty simple. I really like the adjustments that you have made. Maybe you could add some dark clouds/background.. This piece seems like it should be a bit darker, considering the sky is a bit flat. -- A tutorial on how to get more page views: [link] I too was thinking dark clouds!
yeah I thought about putting droplets flinging off her hair... I'll see what I can do! I look up tutorials on making water but I'm worried it would just look weird - like the water was hovering on her instead of that her clothes were wet. Maybe if I darken some areas of her dress like they are wet and sticking to her? -- Gallery|Website|Blog Ohhh that could be interesting.. yeah definitely just experiment
I bet it will turn out great. Haha, great minds think alike. -- A tutorial on how to get more page views: [link] |

That being said...
I like what you did here.
I like the theme, it denotes you had an idea to develop, or that at least, there's something to see within here.
I'd suggest to add some kind of magic atmosphere, to stress the magic mood of the picture; I think the sea looks 'too real' when the woman seems to be in a different scenario (her hair, -which, by the way, is very well done-, in contrast with the sea, discovers they both don't come together).
Perhaps soft glow areas or corners; I especially see this in the bottom of the image and the left side. The contrats between the two images, I mean.
If you want to achieve that mood I'm talking about, I'd play with the curves to get those darker zones a bit brighter, her dress needs light around.
Other than that, it's a picture that gets your attention and makes you look closer to find the details.
It's also a call for freedom, for dreams... as the title says.
The combination of the colors motivates that as well.
So what can I say... Keep on, you're doing it right!
